Bauchi Police Nab 2 ATBU Students For Criminal Conspiracy, Burglary

Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have apprehended two students of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Yelwa Campus in Bauchi over alleged criminal conspiracy, housebreaking and theft.

Police said an anonymous individual alerted the Yelwa Divisional Police headquarters about a group of students assaulting two of their counterparts, Bamusa Mohammed Bako, a 25-year-old 400 level student of Urban and Regional Planning, and Yusuf Umar, also known as Danfari, a 28-year-old 500 level student of Industrial Design of the institution.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Bauchi, SP Ahmed Wakil on Saturday said upon receiving the report, a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer for Yelwa was dispatched to the scene to rescue the victims and initiate an investigation.

He revealed that preliminary findings suggested that the suspects, at about 3 am on the same day conspired and broke into the residence of Raji Rabi’u, a 28 year old 400 level student of Estate Management at the University.

SP Mohammed gave the items the suspects allegedly stole from the residence as one 32-inch Hisense TV; one DSTV decoder; one woofer; one speaker; one pair of shoes; one blanket, and one prayer mat.

The police image maker said the suspects are under investigation and have confessed to the crime, explaining that they planned to use the proceeds of the crime to finance their final-year project defence.

Mohammed said the suspects will be prosecuted upon conclusion of investigation.

The Command enjoined citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station for swift action.
