Bauchi State has concluded preparations to distribute 70 trucks of fertilizer donated by the Central Bank of Nigeria to the state through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
The chairman of the distribution committee, Emir of Jama’are, Nuhu Wabi, disclosed this on Tuesday, saying that the donation of the 70 trucks of fertiliser to Bauchi farmers is part of efforts to boost farming activities in the state.
Wabi said, “The committee would take the commodity to farmers in all the polling units in the 20 local government areas of the state.
“All communities, labour unions, religious organizations, women’s groups, youth groups, and many other bodies would receive the free fertilizer.”
Wabi commended the Bauchi state government and the federal government for the gesture which he said would go a long way in supporting farmers at the grassroots.
He appealed to the beneficiaries to make the best use of the fertilizer to raise the level of agricultural production and ensure food security in the state.
He expressed gratitude to the state government for finding them worthy to serve on the committee and promised to ensure justice and equity in the distribution process.
“Recall that when the committee was inaugurated, some of its terms of reference included designing criteria for the selection of genuine farmers and farmers’ associations across the state, ensuring fair distribution of the assorted fertilizer to the benefiting farmers, and submitting reports to the state government within three weeks,” he said.
