Former Nigerian champions, Nigeria Customs Service, will face defending champions, Kada Emeralds, in the women’s category of the ongoing 2024 National Beach Volleyball Tour on Thursday.
The 2024 National Beach Volleyball Star/Open Tour is taking place at the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Nigeria Customs Service and Kada Emeralds are yet to lose or drop a set.
The Chairman Control Committee of the Nigeria Beach Volleyball Tour, DCP Stephen Hasso (RTD), told journalists that the 24 teams consisting of 11 men (Open Tour), 6 men (Star Tour), and 7 women (Star Tour) are taking part in the tour.
Hasso revealed that the aim of the beach volleyball tour was to ensure the players were fully prepared for major international engagements.
He said three of the women featured in the tour have played in two separate Olympic Qualifiers, while some of the men’s team have participated in various African Championships.
Hasso said, “I am happy with the level of play by the beach volleyball players in this year’s tour. The game of volleyball is growing, and you can see that the younger players are improving while the older players are showing more experience.
“We want to ensure that the game of beach volleyball keeps growing in the country because we possess lots of potential.
“The commission will ensure that the players are kept busy through constant tournaments in order for us to have quality representatives at future international tournaments.”
