The Gwer West Local Government Council has announced an immediate ban on the activities of scrap iron dealers, popularly known as “iron condemn dealers,” across the entire local government area.
This directive, issued by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Ormin Torsar Victor, forms part of the council’s ongoing strategy to tackle rising security challenges and restore peace and order in the region.
Hon. Torsar stated that anyone found engaging in scrap iron trading, especially those transporting materials from conflict-affected or township areas, will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.
In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Timothy Ajieje, residents were also urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious scrap-related activities to security authorities.
“This measure is aimed at protecting lives and property. We call on all security agencies and members of the community to support the strict enforcement of this ban,” the statement stated.
