Boy, 10, gets A* in A-level maths

A 10-year-old boy has gained an A* in A-level maths.

Kautilya Katariya, from Northampton, is one of the youngest people in the country to have taken the examination - and he is a bit of a whizz when it comes to numbers.

He achieved the highest possible marks in his GCSE maths exam at the age of eight, after learning the subject online during Covid lockdowns, and aged six, he became a Guinness World Record holder for being the youngest qualified computer programmer.

Speaking ahead of receiving his result, Kautilya said: "I hope it's an A* but it might be an A."

The pupil, from Wootton Park School, admitted to being "quite excited but also a little bit nervous" before picking up his result.

He studied for the exam using an online teaching site and had consistently achieved either an A grade or an A* in his practise tests.

His talents have not gone unnoticed and in 2022 he attended the World Government Summit in Dubai where he was invited by the prime minister’s office in the UAE to speak about how governments around the world could support young people like himself and ignite innovation.

Kautilya is hoping to study A-level further maths and physics, but outside of the schoolroom, he enjoys origami, swimming, badminton and playing with his little brother.
