The adducted District head of Gatawa in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Isa Bawa, has been reported dead in captivity.

Confirming the tragic news to our correspondent on Wednesday, the lawmaker representing Sabon Birni North in the State House of Assembly, Almustapha Boza, said the team sent to deliver the ransom demanded by the bandits met his (Bawa’s) corpse.

The lawmaker said the team only came back with the late monarch’s son while the district head was already buried before they arrived there.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that he is dead, they have killed him.

“Even those who went there to deliver the ransom couldn’t meet him alive. They only came back with his son who was abducted together with him and we are on our way to the hospital now for treatment,” Boza narrated.

The lawmaker earlier while speaking with our correspondent said, “We have agreed on N60 million and brand new motorcycles as ransom. What delayed the delivery was the specification of the motorcycles demanded which is popularly known as Boko Haram.

“We have gotten the motorcycles today but unfortunately, the bandits did not call the person they were communicating with. They normally call twice in a day; 8 am and 5 pm but today, they have not called throughout.”

Efforts to speak with the Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto State Police Command, Ahmed Rufai, were not successful at the time of filling this report.

Before his death, the late 74-year-old monarch had called on the Sokoto State Government and well-wishers to come to his rescue.

In a 59-second video trending on social media, Bawa appealed for his release from the hands of his abductor

He was kidnapped alongside his son, brother and six others along the Sokoto – Sabon Birni Road.
