BREAKING: Acting army chief promoted Lieutenant General as Lagbaja’s fate remains uncertain

2 weeks ago 33

Olufemi Oluyede, who was appointed acting Chief of Army Staff by President Bola Tinubu last week, has been decorated with the new rank of lieutenant-general, an indication he is set to be made substantive army chief.

Mr Oluyede, formerly a major-general, was decorated with the new rank at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, sources at the villa told PREMIUM TIMES.

The decoration suggests Mr Oluyede will permanently replace Taoreed Lagbaja, a lieutenant general, who has been indisposed for several weeks.

As of the time of this report, it is not clear what Mr Lagbaja’s fate is but a source said the presidency will release a statement on the matter later on Tuesday.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, announced Mr Oluyede’s appointment as acting army chief last Wednesday.

This is a developing story and more details will be provided in subsequent reports.
