BREAKING: Boko Haram Launches Fresh Attack In Yobe

Some heavily armed men suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists have launched a fresh attack in Yobe State.

Naija News understands that the latest assault happened in Buni Yadi, the administrative centre of Gujba Local Government Area, just days following the tragic killing of at least 34 individuals by terrorists.

In a report on Thursday, Daily Trust quoted a source as stating that the recent attack targeted a vigilante camp located at Sabon Fegi, near the government lodge and behind the local government secretariat.

The source noted that the insurgents set fire to parts of the local government lodge and vehicles associated with a nearby bread factory.

‘‘They stormed the town last night on foot, set ablaze some part of government lodge and burned down two vehicles belonging to a bread factory call Annour Bread.

‘‘They were engaged by vigilante members and other special forces compelling the terrorists take to their heels as I am talking to you now, they burnt down vigilante camp, two vehicles of bread factory and some section of the lodge,” the source noted.

Another source from the security agency, who also spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said one of the vigilantes working in the attacked camp sustained injuries.

It was reported that prior to the assault, security personnel on patrol cleared individuals from the streets after receiving intelligence regarding a potential infiltration by insurgents believed to be hiding nearby.

The incident was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Yobe State Police Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, who stated that the terrorists approached in large numbers on foot.

He noted that the insurgents invaded the town and began firing indiscriminately.

In a follow-up, Captain Shehu Muhammad, Assistant Director of the Public Relations Unit for Operation Lafiya Dole Sector 2 in Damaturu, verified the occurrence to journalists, adding that the troops successfully thwarted the attack.
