A suspected dynamite explosion rocked the secretariat building in the early hours of Monday, around 1am, shattering windows and doors, and causing significant property damage, according to The PUNCH.
Explosion has reportedly rocked the secretariat of the Action People’s Party along the GRA axis of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
A suspected dynamite explosion rocked the secretariat building in the early hours of Monday, around 1am, shattering windows and doors, and causing significant property damage, according to The PUNCH.
Although the police have yet to confirm or deny the incident, reports indicate that unknown assailants threw substances believed to be dynamite into the building, resulting in the blast.
This development comes amid rumours that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is considering defecting to the Action Peoples Party (APP) with his loyalists, following allegations that his predecessor and former political mentor, Nyesom Wike, has taken control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
It was observed that the ceiling and fittings in the building were also destroyed while some party officials were sighted discussing the development.
A party official who refused to disclose his identity to the newspaper said the incident was politically-motivated.
He stated, “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack at about 3 am today.
“This is politically-motivated and there is no two ways about it. They know that the APP is a fast-growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits.”
When SaharaReporters reached out to the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, she said the explosion had not been verified.
"Please, I don't have information on the incident yet but you can send me text so that I will work on the information."
