BREAKING: Gunmen Abduct Catholic Priest In Imo

The parish priest of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Obollo, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, Imo State, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Azubuike, was kidnapped on Tuesday night by unidentified gunmen.

Church officials reported that the abduction took place near the Ayayi community as the priest was returning from a church assignment.

In a statement, the Catholic Diocese of Okigwe confirmed the abduction and called for prayers for Fr. Azubuike’s safe return.

Very Rev. Fr. Princewill Iwuanyanwu, the Chancellor/Secretary of the diocese, shared, “I am directed to inform you that one of our priests, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Azubuike, was kidnapped this evening, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at about 6pm.

“We solicit your fervent prayers that he may come back to us safe and sound while trusting in your goodwill and solidarity.”

Reacting to the development, Imo State Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, announced that the police have launched an investigation to secure the priest’s release.

Meanwhile, a bomb explosion in Imo State has sparked chaos, leaving two suspected hoodlums dead and several others injured, according to the Imo State Police Command.

The blast, which occurred in a bustling marketplace, reportedly triggered a stampede as traders and shoppers fled in panic.
