BREAKING: Gunmen Attack Anambra Council Headquarters, Set Buildings Ablaze

Gunmen launched an attack on the Ogbaru Local Government Area secretariat in Anambra State on Friday, causing significant damage to buildings and other properties.

Naija News gathered that the assault occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 30, 2024, with the attackers arriving in large numbers and opening fire as they targeted the council’s headquarters.

While no casualties have been reported, the extent of the damage is still being assessed.

According to sources who spoke to Daily Post, the gunmen set multiple buildings ablaze after firing shots into the air, creating chaos and fear among the residents.

The attackers came in the early hours of Friday and fired shots into the air before igniting parts of the building.

“This is one attack too many. We urge relevant authorities to come to our rescue. We’re living in fear of these attackers, and this isn’t the first time they have targeted our council headquarters,” a source, who wished to remain anonymous, stated.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, stating, “There was an attack on Ogbaru LGA in the early hours of today, 30/08/24.

“The security operatives gallantly resisted the gunmen. Some LGA properties were destroyed. Some buildings were affected and no life was lost as joint security operations are ongoing.
