2 hours ago 1

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has yet to commence the collation of results for the governorship election held on Saturday in Edo State, causing growing tension among political stakeholders and the electorate.

The INEC head office in Benin City serves as the main collation center for the election, where anxious party agents and observers await the formal announcement of results.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, had previously assured that the collation would begin at 10:00 AM on Sunday.

In a statement, Onuoha communicated to the public that, “This is to inform the general public, political stakeholders, and observers that the collation of results for the ongoing Edo State Governors Election will resume today (Sunday) 22nd September, 2024 at 10:00 AM.”

However, as of 10:37 AM, the anticipated collation had not yet started, leading to frustration and concern among those gathered at the INEC office.

The delay has heightened tensions, particularly following reports of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s dramatic entrance to the INEC office amid concerns about the slow process.

As the clock ticks, all eyes remain on INEC to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that the will of the Edo people is accurately reflected in the results.
