BREAKING: Protest Breaks Out Again In Jigawa As Protesters Defy Curfew Order

1 month ago 181

In spite of the 24-hour curfew enforced by the Jigawa state government, numerous young individuals have taken to the streets in various areas of Dutse, the state capital.

Naija News reports that the curfew was earlier declared following significant violence and damage that occurred on the initial day of the nationwide hunger protest across Nigerian states.

Presently, security forces are engaged in confrontations with the demonstrators in the Zai region of the city.

A local resident from the Zai quarters reported that the security personnel are having difficulty stopping the youths from setting up roadblocks, as the youths are resisting their efforts.

“They have refused to beat retreat despite the teargas thrown at them by the security personnel,” the resident who craved anonymity told Daily Trust.

Naija News learnt that a group of young individuals had gathered once again in Shuwarin, located on the outskirts of Dutse, to protest for the second consecutive day.

The protesters are striving to enter the central areas of the state capital, but are facing opposition from security forces.

A witness in Shuwarin reported that numerous youths, including minors, have been taken into custody by the police.

Meanwhile, in Gumel town, the situation remains relatively peaceful as security personnel have blocked off main roads to prevent the protesters from assembling.

Efforts to obtain updates on the status of locations such as Hadeji, Birnin Kudu, Jahun, and Kazaure were unsuccessful due to severe communication network issues at the time of compiling this report.
