Several people are feared dead following a clash between herders and farmers in Adamawa State.

The incident occurred at Kukta, Waltandi district in the Song Local Government Area of the state early Sunday morning, according to local sources.

One of the sources said that "the conflict actually started some days ago, leading to the death of one farmer and one herdsman”.

"It, however, escalated when herders struck very early about 4 am on Sunday, moved from house-to-house and killed five persons," the source added.

Authorities have however responded by deploying security forces to the area to restore normalcy and maintain law and order, SaharaReporters learnt.

This was disclosed by the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, who noted that security forces have been deployed to the area to arrest the perpetrators.

The police spokesperson said, "The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has ordered the Homicide section of the State CID (Criminal Investigation Department) Yola, to embark on a detailed and comprehensive investigation into the alleged herders/farmers clash resulting in the loss of lives and destructions of property which occurred on the 27th of October, 2024.

"The CP is deeply saddened by this unfortunate event as he acknowledges the profound grief and loss caused by this unfortunate act and reassures the Government and Good people of Song local government, that perpetrators would be brought to Justice.”

"The police boss directs officers deployed to immediately bring perpetrators to book," Nguroje said.

Conflicts over grazing land are typical during pre-harvest seasons due to scarcity, emphasizing the urgent need for authorities to intervene.
