The organized labour force, represented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), are presently engaged in discussions with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, over a new minimum wage.
Naija News understands that the latest deliberation is anticipated to finalize matters arising about a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero and Comrade Festus Osifo of the TUC are leading the labour delegation and playing pivotal roles in these discussions.
In the preceding week, President Tinubu convened with labour leaders to deliberate on the issue of minimum wage, expressing his conviction that Nigerian workers are entitled to improved welfare, higher wages, and safer, more conducive working environments.
He also reiterated his commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers and his administration’s unwavering dedication to finding a wage that is acceptable to all parties involved.
Conversely, the labour force has reiterated their demand for a minimum wage of ₦250,000, in opposition to the federal government’s proposal of ₦62,000.
Following the conclusion of the Federal Executive Council meeting last week, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris informed the media that the President would convene with labour leaders to foster a consensus.
The Minister further stated that President Tinubu would schedule a follow-up meeting with the labour leaders as part of his ongoing stakeholder consultation.
