Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Rodrigo Bentancur, has been handed a seven-match suspension and a £100,000 fine following a ruling by an independent regulatory commission regarding his racist comments directed at teammate Son Heung-min.
Naija News reports that as a result of this decision, Spurs will be without their influential midfielder for a considerable duration, as reported by multiple sources.
Football London indicates that Bentancur faced charges after making these remarks during a pre-season interview.
The Football Association has enforced a seven-match ban that applies to domestic competitions, along with the financial penalty.
Bentancur has been a vital player for manager Ange Postecoglou this season, having participated in all but one Premier League match due to a concussion.
Nevertheless, the suspension of the Uruguayan midfielder creates a notable void in Postecoglou’s lineup.
The statement released on Monday reads: “An independent regulatory commission has imposed a seven-match suspension and £100,000 fine on Rodrigo Bentancur for a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to a media interview.
“It was alleged that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder breached FA Rule E3.1 by acting improperly, using abusive and/or insulting words, and bringing the game into disrepute.”
