BREAKING: Varsity Workers Threaten Fresh Strike Action Over Unpaid Salaries

There are strong indications that academic activities may be shut down across Nigerian universities imminently, as the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Other Associated Institutions (NASU) has issued a warning regarding the potential resumption of their previously suspended strike.

The varsity workers have accused the Federal Government of failing to disburse their salaries for the past four months.

Prince Peters Adeyemi, the General Secretary of NASU, confirmed this development to journalists on Wednesday (today) during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Union in Abuja.

While he refrained from specifying the exact date when the strike might begin, it is anticipated that the NEC members will decide this matter during their current discussions.

Meanwhile, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration on Wednesday met with the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).

Naija News reports that the meeting at the Presidential Villa is centred on the state of the nation, especially the petrol pricing.

The meeting is taking place at the Secretary to the Office of the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume, sources told Vanguard.

Those at the meeting are Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, NSA; Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Labour Minister; Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Others are Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Information Minister; Heineken Lokpobiri, Petroleum Minister, State; Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), and representatives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Limited.
