The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Augustine Grimah, has ordered the immediate arrest and investigation of a woman seen in a viral video flogging another young lady simply identified as Queen.

The incident, which has sparked outrage online, involves severe physical assault and trauma.

Grimah issued the directive on Thursday in Calabar, reacting swiftly to the disturbing footage.

He stressed that the arrest would assist the police to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the disturbing incident and bring the perpetrators of the act to justice.

Represented by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, Grimah stated that the command wishes to “address the recent viral video circulating on social media, which depicts a girl, identified as Miss Queen, being subjected to physical assault by a group of girls while in a hotel room.”

PUNCH Online sighted a letter from the police command, dated August 22, 2024, with Ref. No AZ: 5250/CRS/PPRD/VOL.17/247, which revealed this.

It read, “The girl, visibly half-naked in the video, is being flogged for reasons that are currently under investigation so that the perpetrator of this act can be brought to justice.”

The commissioner called for vigilance from players in the hospitality industry, urging them to take proactive measures to profile and conduct background checks on guests who visit their facilities.

The letter added, “This step is crucial in preventing such disturbing incidents from occurring within their premises.”

Meanwhile, the victim has been provided with necessary medical attention and is receiving treatment in one of the hospitals in Calabar metropolis.

The commissioner promised to make the outcome of investigations into the incident known to members of the public.

He said, “We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and upholding justice in our society.”
