Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he regrets not having the opportunity to coach Lionel Messi.

Carlo Ancelotti has coached some of the best players in the history of the game, including Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, Croatian legend Luka Modric and a host of others.

Recall that the 65-year-old Italian tactician has worked at AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Napoli, and Everton.

During his appearance on John Mikel’s Obi One Podcast, Ancelotti expressed his admiration for Messi and reflected on the remarkable list of players he has coached throughout his distinguished career.

“He [Messi] is one of the few [that I missed out on working with],” Ancelotti said.

“I have an unbelievable list [of players I coached in my career], and I remember all of them.

“The teams, the squads, the times we spent together, good times.”

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he plans to retire from coaching at Real Madrid. His current contract with the Spanish La Liga giants will expire on June 30, 2026, a few days after his 66th birthday.

During his interview with Obi One Podcast, Ancelotti revealed that he doesn’t fancy working with a national team.

He said: “I think this will be my last club.

“If there is an opportunity for a national team, I don’t know. I’m not so excited about coaching a national team because I would lose what I like most, the day-to-day. I really enjoy what I’m doing.

“This is my season number 29 as a coach. I have indeed won a lot but imagine the number of titles I lost.”
