The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has concluded plans to train and mentor some youths in the art of filmmaking. The two weeks training and mentorship programme, which will be held in collaboration with notable Nollywood actor, Nze Ugezu J. Ugezu, will produce the first ever ‘Made in Ichida’  film. The Executive Director of the NFVCB, Dr. Husseini Shaibu, made the pledge at the media literacy campaign programme held at St. Augustine’s Parish Ichida, Anambra State on August 17. Held under the theme ‘Power of Parental Guidance in the Digital Age’, the media literacy programme was held to coincide with the yearly meeting and gathering of Igbo women in the Southeast dubbed, August Meeting. In consonance with his avowed promise to make more women media literate, the Board gathered about 1,000 women of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) in Ichida, during the meeting to brainstorm on the power of Parental Guidance in the digital age.

Husseini, who is also the chief executive officer of the Board, assured the women that at the end of the meeting they would become more media literate in the areas of comprehending the classification symbols of the Board and the negative impact of films and social media on the children.

As part of the programme, the women were taught the Classification symbols of the Board and their meanings. They were also taught how to identify the on-screen display that shows the Classification ratings of the film on television. They were equally taught how to monitor their children’s phones using some applications. The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Jude Nwankwo, commended the Board, especially the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy on the laudable initiative to make our mothers more media literate.

At the end of the programme, the Board distributed collateral and souvenir items including branded T shirts and Face Caps, branded umbrellas, and some publications of the Board, including frequently asked questions to the women.
