Spanish retired footballer, Cesc Fabregas, is the new head coach of the newly promoted Italian Serie A club, Como.

Cesc Fabregas has never held such a coaching position on a permanent basis since he ventured into football management immediately after he retired from football in 2023.

Recall that Fabregas, who started his professional football career at Arsenal in 2003 and had spells in FC Barcelona, Chelsea and Monaco, played for Como in the second division of Italian football between 2022 and 2023.

He ended his professional playing career at the club and immediately took up the role of assistant coach. Fabregas also became a co-owner of the club at the same period.

He was also Como’s caretaker coach between November and December 2023. The 37-year-old 2010 FIFA World Cup winner helped Como to return to the Serie A for the first time in 21 years as an assistant coach.

After being promoted to the role of head coach, Cesc Fabregas said: “I am so happy to be starting this season as head coach and I thank the ownership group for trusting me with this position.

“I share the ambitions of the group and believe this is just the start of where this club can go.

“It’s going to be a tough and important season but myself and the rest of the coaching staff are ready and we all believe.”

Note that Cesc Fabregas’ first Serie A game as the coach of Como is against the most successful club in the league, Juventus. The game is scheduled to take place on August 19.
