Chelsea Considering Joao Felix After Samu Omorodion’s Deal Failed

Chelsea are exploring the possibility of bringing back forward Joao Felix following the breakdown of talks for striker Samu Omorodion.

Negotiations between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid for Omorodion fell through despite a £34.5 million transfer fee being agreed upon last week.

There has been some hesitation at Stamford Bridge regarding the deal for Omorodion, as the club is also considering a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, potentially involving Romelu Lukaku in the transfer.

While a deal for Omorodion is not entirely off the table, discussions have not progressed as expected. In light of this, Chelsea are now looking at Joao Felix after meeting with his agent Jorge Mendes.

So far this summer, Chelsea have signed 10 players, with an average age of under 21, spending a total of £185 million and expanding their squad to around 50 senior players.

Felix, who previously spent six months on loan at Stamford Bridge during the 2022-2023 season, is reportedly open to a return.

Atletico Madrid valued Felix at around £43 million, having made him the fifth most expensive player in history when they signed him from Benfica for £113 million in 2019.

Another potential aspect of this deal is that it could enable midfielder Conor Gallagher to move to Atletico for £34 million because the Spanish club needs to make a significant player sale to make room for the Englishman.

Despite this, Atletico’s £81.5 million move for Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez is still anticipated to go through, unaffected by the necessity to sell a player to sign Gallagher.
