Chelsea’s Recruitment Team Has Failed – William Gallas

Former Chelsea player, William Gallas has criticized the club’s recruitment strategy in the ongoing summer transfer window.

William Gallas expressed his discontent with Chelsea’s recruitment team, particularly in light of recent reports suggesting that the club is looking to sign goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen from Villarreal to compete with Robert Sanchez.

Gallas questioned the decision to sign another goalkeeper, implying that it reflects a lack of confidence in the current goalkeeping options at the club, specifically Djordje Petrovic and Kepa.

He remarked that if Chelsea indeed feels the need to bolster the goalkeeping position, it indicates a failure on the part of the club’s recruitment team.

“Hold on, hold on. You’re telling me that Chelsea wants to strengthen their squad with another goalkeeper to provide competition for Robert Sanchez, so that means they don’t think what they have in the club is good enough,” William Gallas told Gambling Zone.

“That must mean that they don’t rate Djordje Petrovic or Kepa. If that is true, then Chelsea’s recruitment team has failed.”

Note that since American businessman, Todd Boehly and his consortium took over Chelsea in 2022, they have spent over €1 billion in signing new players. Yet, they finished outside the top four in the last two seasons winning no title.

Currently, they are in the United States for a pre-season tour with their new coach, Enzo Maresca. In their last two games, they recorded a 2-2 draw with lower league club Wrexham and a 4-1 defeat to Scottish side, Celtic.
