Chrisland’s parade of stars showcases emerging musical talents

It was a night of musical magic and exceptional talent to the delight of the audience present when children of Chrisland Schools recently held its choral evening, themed, Parade of Stars.

The evening kicked off with a unity choir consisting of the students, welcoming attendees with the school’s unity song and this was quickly followed by a sonorous rendition of Asa’s Eye Adaba and I am A Child by some early years’ foundation children, to the delight of the audience.

The music didn’t end there as this was again followed by a violin duet of He Raised Me Up. Not limiting themselves to songs rendered in English alone or even just Nigerian songs, the children delivered a Spanish rendition, Italian and Brazilian songs, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa and Ghanaian songs.

An orchestra took over the stage, belting out popular tunes that had the crowd on their feet, begging for more. The night also featured a playlet, titled, Olanrewaju, a fashion parade showing off the major Nigerian tribes and a Zulu dance presentation.

Music educator for the school’s FESTAC branch, David Chiemeka, said daily rehearsals produced the magic the children presented, as they practiced for about three months. He said children are gifted and can play any instrument once they are guided properly.

“There is so much children can do musically and I want to tell parents to help musically gifted children by enrolling them in a good music academy to properly hone their talents,” Chiemeka stated.

One of the children that sang in the choir, Oluwateni Alonge from Year 5 Onyx, described the experience as fun and interesting, adding that it helped him build his social confidence. He noted further that music is not a distraction and would love to sing professionally.

Head, Quality Assurance Unit, Primary Section for the school and coordinator of the event, Fidelia Ogechukwu Egwu, said “we believe that every child is talented and we intend to develop each talent to the fullest.

“Last year, we held a symphony of stories, this year, it is a parade of stars. I am glad that the parents cooperated with us to bring this show to life and it will be great to hone these young stars into global talents that will grace the world’s biggest stages,” she said.
