Women wing of the Christian Council of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter, has decried violence against women and children which has continued unabated in the country.

Chairperson of the wing, Elizabeth Bola Asa, who spoke to DAILY POST during a rally around some strategic points in Ilorin on Tuesday, complained bitterly against rape, defilement of children and battering of women by their husbands.

She asserted that “women are not slaves, hence, they should be treated as human beings who can contribute meaningfully to nation’s development in any capacity.

“Women can hold any political office, either as members of the state and national assemblies, governor or even president of the country.

“We don’t want anybody to molest our girl children and women again, they should give us equal rights, rape and killing of girls and women should stop.

“Government should arrest, prosecute and sanction culprits caught in the act according to the law irrespective of status in the society.

“They rape and kill our girls and women without any justification and go scot-free most times, which is unacceptable to us.

“We are not drums to be beaten anyhow, hence, our bitterness for the maltreatment of our girls child and women,” she added.
