The Ibru Ecumenical Centre, Agbarha-Otor, Delta State, came alivelast week, as Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) held its 2024 Senior Clergy Wives’ Retreat with theme: “My Presence Shall Go With You,” taken from Exodus 33:14. The Mothers’ Union President, Mrs. Angela Ndukuba (Mama Nigeria), presided over the meeting.

The first day of the retreat started with a Holy Communion led by the Archbishop of Bendel Province and Bishop of Ughelli Diocese, the Most Rev’d C.O. Odutemu, who took his text from Exodus 33:14. He was assisted by the Rector of Ibru Centre, Ven. Stephen Wolemonwu and other priests.

The second day of the programme started with corporate devotion at 7am, followed by welcome address by Bendel Provincial President, Mrs. Ufuoma Odutemu. In her address, Mrs. Ndukuba challenged the delegates to be focused and ensure they return to their provinces, dioceses and parishes with good results.

She said: “Don’t compare yourself with other clergies’ wives within your diocese or in other Dioceses, as no two persons, parishes or dioceses are the same or has it all. Each has its own challenges.”

The Mothers’ Union President’s address was followed by Bible Study 1, led by Bishop of Western Zion Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Victor E. Opuora, who spoke on the topic: “My Presence Will Go With You,” taken from Exodus 33:14. It went on with study guide, questions and answers section.

The exposition followed with the theme: “My Presence Will Go With You,” anchored by His Grace, the Most Rev’d C.O. Odutemu. He explained that without the presence of God, nobody in ministry could make it on his/her own strength.

Other features of the event included talks on good health anchored by Lady Sola Vwede of the Diocese of Warri. She emphasised the need for good diet, exercise and rest.

A seminar on the topic: “Ageing Gracefully, You And Your Husband” was handled by Ven. MesheckOkkdike of the Diocese of Asaba. He admonished husbands and wives to faithfully live and eat together, citing Abraham and Sarah, as an example in Genesis 12:18; Priscilla and Aquila in Acts 18:18-26 as well Joseph and Mary of Nazareth in Luke 2:39-52. Over 152 delegates attended the four-day retreat and they were challenged, refreshed and empowered to be better in their walk with God and work for God.
