The Imam of Zakariyya Mosque in Mafoluku, Lagos, Abdulqadir Abdullateef Olamilekan, has urged the Federal Government to venture into agriculture as the only solution to make the country become self-sufficient and as well overcome high cost of living faced by Nigerians.
In his Sallah message, yesterday, Olamilekan, while lamenting high cost of rice, ram, cow and other items, said that the government should be efficient in agriculture, and ensure there is enough for people to consume.
The Imam, who enjoined the Muslim faithful to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir according to their ability, further said: “In Islam, it depends on your ability; it is not compulsory you must kill ram.”
“The value of cows has multiplied more than that of last year. For instance, there is a cow for N2.5 million, N1.5 million, and the minimum you can get is not less than N500,000. A ram, last year was sold between N100,000 and N120,000 but this year, it costs N270, 000.”
He, however, urged Muslim faithful to pray for Nigeria more than ever before and should not go borrowing because they want to celebrate Sallah.
