New Enyimba FC coach, Yemi Daniel

Yemi Olanrewaju Daniel is over the moon following his confirmation as the head coach of Enyimba International on Tuesday by the Nwankwo Kanu-led management of the People’s Elephant, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The highly elated gaffer served as an assistant coach under Finidi George and has now been elevated to the top position following the departure of the former Nigeria winger, who has taken up the reins at Rivers United.

The burgeoning tactician shared his excitement on his social media handles on Wednesday, expressing his gratitude to Kanu, Finidi, and the club’s rank and file.

He stated philosophically, “My story looks like David’s. While I am always busy serving and working my socks off on the field, God has His own plan for me on the throne. Whatever He gives, He watches over and preserves.

“Thanks to the Enyimba management led by a legend and a thorough good man, King Kanu, for the trust and appreciation of my commitments, faithfulness, and loyalty to the club since I joined to work as an assistant to my big brother for life, Finidi, in September 2022, who showed so much trust in me all the while he was busy with the Super Eagles.

“I am grateful to everyone who has been part of my journey from day 1. Now, let Mighty One in battle takes the lead.”

Daniel was handed a one-year contract to lead the club in the upcoming season in the NPFL, President Federation Cup, and CAF Confederation Cup.

Daniel has previously worked as a coach at MFM FC, Vandrezzer, and with the Nigerian Under-17s.

Kanu believes that Daniel has the skills and expertise” to help the People’s Elephant navigate the coming season, starting with a trip to Nigeria Premier Football League newcomer Beyond Limits FC on Saturday, September 6.

“Coach Yemi has been an invaluable member of our coaching staff,” Kanu said. “We believe he has the skills and expertise to take the team to the next level, and we look forward to seeing the team thrive under his leadership,” the former Nigerian international told Enyimba media.
