Nigerian comedian and actor, Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has called on his fellow celebrities to seek legal action if they are defamed by online trolls. He advised them to avoid using the police to “illegally” arrest or detain individuals, stating that this approach could lead to “serious danger”.

Mr Macaroni, who has himself been a victim of online defamation, said he has never used his connections with the police to silence his critics. Instead, he has chosen to seek legal action, emphasizing that this is the right approach for celebrities who want to protect their reputation.

His advice comes amid reports that a Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham, had an online user arrested for allegedly wishing her child harm. Mr Macaroni’s statement highlights the need for celebrities to use legal channels to address online harassment and defamation, rather than resorting to police action.

In a social media post, Mr Macaroni wrote: “If anyone insults you or defames your character, go to court and seek justice. Don’t use your friends in government to illegally detain citizens.” He emphasized that online bullying and harassment have serious consequences and encouraged celebrities to seek legal action to protect their rights.
