Conor Gallagher Accepts Atletico Madrid’s Transfer Offer

Chelsea assistant captain, Conor Gallagher, has finally agreed to leave the club for Spanish La Liga club, Atletico Madrid.

Note that Chelsea accepted Atletico Madrid’s £33 million offer for the services of Conor Gallagher days ago.

However, initial doubts arose regarding Gallagher’s willingness to make the move to Spain. Those concerns seem to have been dispelled as the 24-year-old informed Atletico officials on Sunday night that he is indeed keen on joining the club.

It is anticipated that Gallagher will soon travel to complete his medical and finalize the contract signing, effectively bringing an end to his 18-year association with Chelsea.

Recall that the Premier League club had proposed a two-year contract with an option for an additional year, but Gallagher was dissatisfied with both the duration of the contract and the role within the squad that was offered to him.

Reports suggest that Gallagher’s playing style may not align well with the possession-based tactics introduced by the new Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, and consequently, he was unlikely to be a regular starter under the Italian.

With less than a year left on his current Chelsea deal, the club opted to sell the midfielder to an overseas team rather than to a domestic rival, thus enabling Atletico to secure a deal at a reduced price.
