The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Zone C, has postponed by one month its planned strike in protest of the implementation of a ‘contentious’ scheme of service.
ASUP Zonal Coordinator (Zone C), Mr Masopa Adekunle, disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that the 2024 scheme of service was recently released by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Adekunle said that the proposed strike had been put on hold for one month, and urged members of the union to continue rendering their services.
Executive members of ASUP, Zone C, had held a press Conference at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos State, on July 15, given the Federal Government a 15-day ultimatum to suspend implementation of the scheme of service of face strike.

The zone, comprising polytechnics and monotechnics in South West and Kwara, claimed that there were contentious, obnoxious and discriminatory provisions in the scheme of service document.
Adekunle said in the statement on Wednesday that the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUP, at an emergency meeting on July 22, reviewed the resolution of a trippatite meeting of the Federal Ministry of Education, ASUP leadership and NBTE.
“After extensive deliberations, the NEC resolved to put on hold the proposed strike for a period one month in order to give room for amendment of the contentious provisions.
“It is expected that the controversial provisions in the scheme would be amended in conformity with provisions in other sub-sectors and acceptable standards globally,” Adekunle said.
