Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, has said the refusal by the government to pay the minimum wage demand of workers has a link with corruption.

Joe Ajaero said corruption was responsible for the lack of productivity of the country and the disappearance of internally generated revenues of governments which they rely on as reason why they cannot pay organized labour’s demand.

The NLC President said this on Thursday, in Abuja, while speaking at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) Walk Against Corruption Rally.

Ajaero said Nigerian workers are behind EFCC like other Nigerians. He said there was an urgent need to fight corruption.

Ajaero advised the EFFC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, not to allow anybody misinform him to go against genuine Nigerians who are making their living legitimately through hard work.

He advised Olukoyede to mobilize all Nigerians to join the movement against corruption. He added that Nigeria must fight corruption before it ruins the country.

Comrade Ajaero said, “There are lot of corruption. If you go to the power sector, you know why we don’t have electricity. There is urgent need for us to fight corruption, and NLC will throw its weight behind EFCC.

“The only advice is don’t allow anybody to misinform you so that genuine Nigerians will back you.

“Nigerians are united in the fight against corruption clearly. What your agency needs to do is to connect them so that it will be mass movement. Everybody from year to year, generation to generation has been pointing corruption.”

He said the fight against corruption must not be lost because of the next generation.

“We have to make sure that this fight we are taking to the next generation is a fight we cannot afford to lose.

“There is no need talking about productivity and IGR if only one man in one second can write it off. We must fight corruption before corruption will ruin the country,” he said.
