Ahead of the local council elections in Kano State, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), yesterday, introduced fees for aspirants seeking to contest the chairmanship and councillorship seats under the platform.
According to the party, chairmanship aspirants would pay N600,000, while councillorship aspirants are to part with N200,000 for nomination. The announcement came few days after the State Independent Electoral Commission fixed N10 million and N5 million nomination fees for chairmanship and councillorship candidates, respectively.
Addressing journalists at the party secretariat, state NNPP chairman, Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa, said prospective chairmanship aspirants would pay half a million naira nomination fee, while expression of interest form stands at N100,000.
He revealed that in addition, the party had purchased WAEC scratch cards to verify academic records of prospective aspirants. Dungurawa said: “We have fixed N500,000 nominations fee for prospective chairmanship aspirants, while the Expression of Interest form stands at N100,000.
“Similarly, we have also fixed N150,000 nomination form fee for councillors, while Expression of Interest (form) is fixed at N50,000.”
“We have purchased WAEC scratch cards to verify academic records of aspirants, while we are also relying on records from the NDLEA to ascertain their drug and criminal history.”
