A Jos Magistrates’ Court, on Monday, sentenced a 19-year-old welder, Moses Friday, to 8 months in correctional centre for breaking into a shop and stealing.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the two-count charge before Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos, was tried and sentenced to 8 months imprisonment.
The magistrate, however, gave him an option of fine of N20,000 and also ordered him to pay N80,000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, informed the court that the case was reported at the “A” Division Police Station on May 26 by one Sandra John, the complainant.
Gokwat said that the convict gained access into the shop through the ceiling and made away with eight packs of biscuits, 10 packs of Indomie noodles, four Nitro Yoghurt and four rolls of sachet Peak milk.
Other items stolen included four sown wrappers, N50,000 cash and some quantity of rice and beans, all valued at N233,380.
The convict, however, agreed that the value of the items he stole was just N80,000.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
