The Guardian learnt that the deceased’s left hand was also severed in the incident, which occurred on Sunday along Ijagun Road in Ijebu Ode.
Confirming the development yesterday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, said: “A concerned citizen, through a phone call at about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 11, reported that cultists were involved in a confrontation along Ijagun Road, in Ijebu Ode.
“Upon receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) quickly dispatched a team of officers to the scene. On arrival, and after a careful examination, the DPO discovered the body of an unidentified middle-aged man with machete wounds and gunshot injuries.”
“Additionally, it was noticed that his left hand had been severed and taken away. It was later discovered that the deceased, also known as ‘Mosquito’, was identified as a member of the Aye confraternity. “
Odutola added that six expended cartridges were found at the scene. Also, the body was evacuated and transferred to Ijebu Ode State Hospital.
According to her, an investigation is ongoing while efforts are being made to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene and unravel the pattern of cutting off the left hand of the deceased.
