The Coalition of United Political Parties, (CUPP) has raised the alarm over intelligence received by the Opposition of an alleged grand plot by highly placed actor in the Rivers State political crisis to use the Police to frame the spokesperson of the opposition federal lawmakers group, also known G60, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, with fabricated charges of murder, rape, kidnap, gun running and other crimes, over his stance on Rivers crisis, defence of democracy and principles of decent intra-party procedures.

The apex union of all opposition political parties in the country, in a statement by its spokesperson, Mark Adebayo, and secretary general, said that they received Intel of moves by a former governor of Rivers State, who is not happy with the efforts of Ugochinyere, who has kept exposing the ills of the society and plot to undermine democracy in Rivers State especially the unconstitutional attempts to halt constitutional governance in Rivers State, destabilise Governor Siminalayi Fubara and hijack the soul of the PDP to help weaken opposition in the country.

They urged the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner and IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate the Intel, ensure that no unit of the Police Force both at FCT and NPF headquarters were involved in any alleged attempt to frame the leading Opposition Lawmaker which will bring so much public disdain and condemnation, vowing that if it’s true, they won’t sit back and watch anyone harm one of their own, whom they described as the people’s messenger.

The opposition parties added that Ugochinyere’s pro-democracy struggles, advocacy and many battles in Rivers and Kano States should be applauded as that’s what every right-thinking Democrat and party man should do, in defence of public interest, peace, stability and progress of Nigeria.

The statement read, “The leadership of the CUPP received Intel of moves by a former governor in Rivers state who is not happy with the efforts of leading Opposition Lawmaker and spokesperson of opposition lawmakers coalition G60, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, who keeps exposing the plot to undermine democracy in Rivers and exposing the plots to destroy the opposition parties especially PDP National by some PDP members with one leg in PDP and one in APC to use the police in fct and hqrs command to frame the opposition voice by framing him for murder, kidnap, rape, financial crimes and other fabricated criminal charges in a desperate bid to silence his voice and destroy his shinning reputation.

“The opposition leaders after the central committee meeting of the cupp said they received the Intel and is using the public medium to inform the CP of FCT command Ben Igwe and IGP Egbetokun to investigate the authenticity of such shocking developments and if true nip the plot in the bud to save the image of the police as the opposition families in Nigeria will unite to resist and fight such a fabricated attack or alleged moves to frame one of the shinning light of Nigeria democracy.

“Ugochinyere since decades ago has been student and youth leader, activist who always stood out, fighting for injustice and correcting ills in the Nigerian society and also he’s a ranking member of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP which is the ruling party in Rivers State. Where others are not speaking up he is, so his advocacy and many battles in Rivers and Kano States should be applauded as that’s what every right thinking Democrat and party man should do, in defence of public interest, peace, stability and progress of Nigeria.”
