Fiorentina’s new goalkeeper, David De Gea, has revealed the reason behind his prolonged search for a new club after leaving Premier League club, Manchester United in the summer of 2023.

David De Gea left Manchester United following the expiration of his contract and a prolonged contract extension talks.

Despite being linked with multiple clubs during the past year, the Spanish goalkeeper only returned to football this month by signing a one-year contract with Fiorentina.

De Gea blamed his deep emotional connection with Manchester United for his inability to get a new club speedily.

“Man United is a top, top club, and my heart will always be there,” David de Gea told reporters.

“I never thought about retiring, it was just difficult to find motivation for a new chapter after 12 years at a top club like Man United.

“I finally felt that at Fiorentina.”

Meanwhile, Premier League club Liverpool are reportedly showing keen interest in securing a deal to sign French midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The Frenchman is currently a free agent after departing from Juventus at the end of his contract this summer.

The Mirror has reported that Rabiot has been added to Liverpool’s list of transfer targets.

At Arsenal, the Premier League side have confirmed an agreement to sell their defender Brooke Norton-Cuffy to Genoa, with the deal estimated to be worth around £3.5 million.

Norton-Cuffy, a product of Arsenal’s academy system, previously had loan spells at Millwall, Lincoln, Rotherham, and Coventry before his potential move to the Serie A club, Genoa this summer.
