Okpare-Olomu town in Olomu Kingdom of Ughelli South local government area of Delta state has raised the alarm over the invasion of their community by soldiers.

The soldiers who stormed the community with three military pickup vans on Thursday are said to have taken over the community town hall.

The heavily armed soldiers were still occupying the community town hall and barricaded the premises with their vehicles.

The President-General of Okpare-Olomu Town, Mr Okiemute Otoka, confirmed the development, alleging that the military personnel were deployed to truncate the community’s annual conference slated for Thursday, at which the community’s annual report would be presented.

Otoka alleged that some community elders and leaders who illegally sold community lands without approval of the annual conference were behind the invasion of the community town hall by the military.

Sources confirmed the operatives were alleged to have immediately entered the community town hall in search of some community leaders, including Otoka.

The soldiers’ action has sparked protests from community women and youths in various quarters and streets in Okpare-Olomu town.
