As rising water level threatens residents of Delta State, the state government has set up five internally displaced persons’ (IDP) camps in coastal communities.

The camps are in Asaba, Kwale, Patani, Ozoro and Otu-Jeremi.

The chief press secretary to the governor, Festus Ahon, who revealed this during a television programme monitored in Asaba noted that state government would not abandon flood victims across the state.

According to him, the flood management committee has made arrangements for mattresses, feeding, electricity, water and medicals for the IDPs and “we urge them to relocate to the camps nearest to them.”

Apart from the above provisions, Ahon said the committee has also made arrangements for school children to be taught in the camps.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains committed to ensuring that all residents of the state are protected and catered for in line with his administration’s MORE Agenda,” he added.

He called on those living in flood-prone areas to relocate to higher grounds as the government was making adequate arrangements to accommodate them at the IDP camps nearest to them.
