The coalition of riverine communities in Delta State has lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the creation of the Riverine Infrastructure Ministry.

The appreciation was contained in a statement jointly signed by the National President and spokesman of the coalition, Barrister Owei Ipiteikumoh and Hon. Ezekiel Daniel respectively, copies of which were made available to journalists in Asaba on Monday.

Also, the coalition appreciated the appointment of Hon. Ebikeme Clark by the governor to head the ministry, saying that they “believe strongly in the capabilities of Ebikeme Clark in heading this all-important ministry.”

The coalition averred that with the newly created Riverine Infrastructure Ministry, “the yearnings of our people will be squarely addressed, and so we pledge our total allegiance to this course while applauding your benevolence and magnanimity.”

The statement partly reads, “It is with great joy in our hearts that we write to show gratitude and appreciation to our amiable governor for listening to the pleas of the Izons to set up a ministry with the sole jurisdiction of attending to the yearnings of the riverine communities of Delta State.

“It is worthy of note Your Excellency, the difficult terrains and daunting challenges of the Izons as a people. This we have been striving to live above over the years whilst contributing to the growth and development of our dear state.

“We believe your knowledge of the harsh conditions we the Izons live in necessitated your establishment of this ministry, which we are most grateful for. We have waited for over 15 years for this kind of intervention.

“We appreciate also the choice of your appointment to head this very important ministry. We believe strongly in the capabilities of Hon. Ebikeme Clark chairing this all-important ministry. We congratulate him profusely and wish him a hitch-free run of this office.

“We won’t also forget to show our gratitude to Papa E.K Clark, whose tireless efforts at bringing about the dividends of good governance and of democracy to our doorsteps. His doggedness on progressive issues is always an inspiration to us his children and proteges. We say a big thanks to you, sir.

“Our vote of thanks also goes to High Chief Government Ekpenmupulo (Tompolo) for his constant and steadfast clamour for the best for us all. We cannot overemphasize his contributions, both in the past and now.

“In the same vein, we express our gratitude to Chief Comr. Sheriff Mulade, who in the last eight years focused his advocacy firmly on an intervention agency solely dedicated to the well-being of the riverine area and other critical Izon stakeholders.

“We strongly believe that the yearnings of our people will be squarely addressed by this ministry, Your Excellency and so we pledge our total allegiance to this course while applauding your benevolence and magnanimity.

“Having taken the first key step, we are hereby appealing to Delta State House of Assembly, under the progressive leadership of Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, that the remaining  “i’s” will be dotted and “t’s” will be crossed immediately, so that the ministry can take off in full force with the needed law.”
