Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has expressed sadness over the death of the member representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State in the House, Hon. Olaide Adewale Akinremi.
Akinremi, popularly known as Jagaban, died in the early hours of Wednesday in Abuja after a brief illness.
The Deputy Speaker, in a condolence message contained a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Press Affairs, Udora Orizu, expressed profound grief at the loss, recalling the contributions of the late lawmaker to nation-building through legislative interventions and policies.
He noted that Akinremi, until his demise, was a detribalised Nigerian who worked to serve the interest of Nigerians.
Kalu said the ranking lawmaker was dedicated and committed to the development of his constituency and the country as a whole.
He recalled his active participation in legislative activities and the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that Akinremi will truly be missed.
Offering his heartfelt condolences to the Akinremi family, the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, the Government and People of Oyo State, and the entire APC family, the Deputy Speaker said Akinremi’s legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of working with him and benefiting from his leadership.
He prayed Almighty God to grant his family and loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
