The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has called on electricity consumers who have not yet registered with the company to do so immediately.

The appeal comes as part of ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and ensure efficient power distribution in Taraba state.

Speaking yesterday at the YEDC/NERC stakeholders sensitization engagement, the Regional manager, Aliyu Aminu, who announced that Band A customers currently enjoy a 24-hour power supply, highlighted the benefits of proper registration and timely bill payments.

The company emphasized that prompt payment for electricity is essential, as YEDC does not operate in isolation and must purchase power on behalf of its consumers.

“We urge all customers to pay their electricity bills regularly to avoid bill accumulation,” a YEDC representative stated. “We are not only paying for the electricity we consume but also bear additional operational costs.”

YEDC also addressed safety concerns, warning residents against constructing buildings under or too close to electricity structures.

“There should be a safe distance between any structure and electrical equipment. These areas pose significant risks due to radiation and other hazards,” it warned.

Customers experiencing issues were encouraged to reach out through official channels rather than resorting to aggressive behaviour.

“Desist from harassing, abusing, or intimidating YEDC staff. We are here to serve, and your cooperation makes our job easier,” the company added.

YEDC reaffirmed its commitment to customer satisfaction and safety, urging continued dialogue and mutual respect between staff and the communities.

Stakeholders who spoke at the engagement applauded the YEDC for its improved service delivery in Taraba, particularly in Jalingo, the state capital.
