During a recent interview for Netflix, Benedict Cumberbatch, famous for his character Doctor Strange, hinted at something that has Marvel fans excited. The British actor confirmed his return as the iconic Sorcerer Supreme in Avengers 5. The film is expected to begin filming next year.
Cumberbatch shared his enthusiasm, stating, “It’s been a pretty lovely relationship with that [Marvel] ever since [being cast]. I’m very much looking forward to Avengers next year, which is cooking up a storm.”
He added, “The joy of playing him is immense, but also, the joy of playing him means I can help and create and platform stories and writing and less commercial fair into being,”
“So he’s a gift in many many ways in my life as a producer [and] as an actor. I love playing him. He’s great fun.” Cumberbatch concluded.
His return is eagerly anticipated by fans, especially after his appearance in the 2021 crossover hit Spider-Man: No Way Home.
He revealed this during an interview with Netflix. He broke down all of his iconic on-screen characters. Some of these include Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock, and Smaug in The Hobbit.
What to expect in Avengers 5
Although Marvel Studios has kept details about Avengers 5 not known to the public, it is known to be part of Phase 6 and is set for release on May 1, 2026. Originally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, recent developments have started speculations about a potential new title. Michael Waldron, known for his work on the Loki series, is the film’s screenwriter, while the search for a director continues.
