Methodist Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, Rt Rev Edoka Amuta, has charged citizens not to lose hope in the face of the country’s socioeconomic challenges.

The clergyman spoke yesterday during a thanksgiving service organised in honour of Rev (Prof) Andrew Ijwo, a professor of mass communication at Benue State University.

The occasion was to celebrate the scholar’s attainment of full professorship, ordination into the priesthood and 25 years in marriage.

The majority chief whip of the Benue State House of Assembly and member representing Katsina-Ala constituency, Hon Peter Ipusu, appreciated Prof Ijwo’s humility and urged others to imbibe the clergyman’s culture of sincerity, honesty, and integrity.

Some of his colleagues, including Drs Tyotom Keghku, Chile Caleb, Maria Onyilo and Benjamin Ogbu, described him as a good team player.

A department graduate and chairman of Ushongo local government, Hon Adzu Terkimbi, described the scholar as a true father, mentor, and friend and prayed for more of God’s blessings.

Two ex-students, Oryiman Gwaza and Elizabeth Uta, hailed Prof Ijwo’s student-friendly nature and urged other lecturers always to treat their students well.

The celebrant, Professor Ijwo, thanked God for his protection and provisions in his academic sojourn, his priestly ordination and his silver jubilee in marriage and prayed for more grace and wisdom.
