A truck driver, his motor boy and others escaped death by the whiskers yesterday, after a 20-feet container fell at Oshodi-Oke, Lagos.
The incident led to a heavy gridlock in the area. However, intervention by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) salvaged the situation.
It was learnt that the container fell off the truck at about 6:00 a.m., but the agency only managed to clear the road at about 10:00 a.m.
A commercial driver at the scene, Tunde Amoo, said: “This accident happened early in the morning; we spent hours waiting for the road to be cleared. I am happy that LASTMA could save the situation, even on a Sunday.”
Speaking on the incident, officials of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the container, which was loaded with chemicals, fell when the truck lost control while ascending the road.
A LASTMA official at the scene, Adebimpe Ola, said they moved in after receiving a call to ease the situation, and end the logjam that had extended to Toyota Bus Stop, along the Apapa-Oshodi expressway.
