Nigerian table tennis star Offiong Edem has announced her arrival in Germany for the final preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games starting on July 26 in Paris, France, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
She competed for Nigeria at the 2004 and 2012, 2016, and 2020 Summer Olympics and will be going for her fifth, leaving her in sheer ecstasy.
“Germany for the Olympic training camp! I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to represent my country and train with the best. It’s been a long time coming, and I’m grateful to the Ministry of Sports and Development for making this possible. I’ll keep you all posted on my journey,” the Calabar-born stated on Thursday.
“Huge thanks to all who helped make my Olympic dream a reality. Your support means everything. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. Let’s do this! See you in Paris, added Edem, whose foundation recently concluded the third edition of mini table tennis tournaments at UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
Edem qualified for Paris 2024 after she put up an impressive performance at the African Qualifying Tournament at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.
Edem secured a hard-fought 4-2 semi-final victory against Tunisia’s Fadwa Garci to seal a spot in France alongside Olajide Omotayo, who outclassed Congo-Brazzaville’s Saheed Idowu 4-0.
