Edo Guber: LP debunks purported withdrawal of Akpata from election

The Labour Party LP has debunked a letter making the rounds on social media purporting that its candidate for the Saturday gubernatorial election in Edo State, Olumide Akpata has stepped down.

This came a few hours after a letter purportedly written by Akpata surfaced on social media claiming that he has stepped down for the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asue Ighodalo.

In the letter crested in the letter head with the Labour Party logo and insignia fated 20th September, 2024 with Akpata’s name and signature, he begged his supporters and those of the party for their understanding for the painful decision to step down from the race.

The letter also claimed that Akpata did not only announced the collapsing his campaign structures into that of the PDP but urged his supporters to vote for Asue Ighodalo, candidate of the PDP.

However, in a swift response, the Labour Party in Edo State through its Chairman, Kelly Ogbaloi, denied knowledge of such letter which he described as fake.

The LP chairman said , “we cannot step down at this time. No, that’s not happening.

“The letter was forged and we have debunked it already. LP candidate cannot at this time issue a letter that he is withdrawing from the race. We cannot resign. Akpata is very much in the race.”
