The wife of Edo State Governor, Betsy Obaseki, joined by the wife of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Ifeyinwa Asume Ighodalo, at the weekend, appealed to various women groups across the state on the need to rally support for the PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

Obaseki, who doubles as the Chairperson of the PDP Women Campaign Council, spoke during the official launch of the women’s campaign for the September governorship election in the state.

The campaign commenced in Uromi where women leaders from Esan North East and Esan South West councils gathered to meet with Mrs. Obaseki with promises to deliver the PDP candidate.

In her address, the governor’s wife expressed gratitude for their support during the 2020 governorship election, acknowledging the crucial role the women played in the reelection of Governor Godwin Obaseki for a second term.

“You stood firm in 2020, ensuring Obaseki’s re-election, especially during challenging times. I’m here to thank you on behalf of the governor and myself,” Mrs. Obaseki said.

She also introduced the wife of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, as the next First Lady of Edo State.  Addressing the women, Mrs Ighodalo promised to build on the current administration’s efforts on women’s involvement in agriculture.

MEANWHILE, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, at the weekend, assured that his priority, if elected governor, will be to address the lingering problem of deplorable road infrastructure across the state.

He also appealed to the business people of Evbareke and Uwelu Spare Parts Markets in Egor Local Council to vote for the APC in the September 21 governorship election.

Okpebholo spoke at Evbareke and Uwelu Spare Parts Markets during the party’s ward-to-ward campaign in Egor Local Council. The governorship candidate said that he will ensure that the roads leading to the markets are passable without difficulty.

He said: “I will make sure I fix this road immediately. I assume office as the governor of Edo State. I know full well that the spare parts market contributes to the economy of the state greatly.”

Also, in Ikpoba Okha Local Council, Okpebholo promised to revive the Bendel Brewery and ensure Ikpoba Okha youths are fully employed. Okpebholo added: “We will employ 500 teachers within 100 days in office, as well as provide pipe-borne water. There will be mechanised farming, as women will be given soft loans, and a 35 per cent quota will be allocated to them in my cabinet.”
