The candidate of the Labour Party in the Edo State governorship election billed for September 21, Olumide Akpata, has promised to prioritise health care in the state if elected.
Akpata, who stated this on Monday while addressing supporters and residents in Etete, Benin City, said that the people need to be healthy at all times to be able to carry out their daily activities.
He also noted that his party is ready to deliver its campaign promises in the state compared to what has happened since the beginning of the Fourth Republic in 1999.
He said the definition of democracy has prominence on the people, hence the need for government to begin working for the people instead of public officeholders disconnecting themselves from the people once they get into power.
He said if elected, he would also prioritise the development of the inner cities and other areas lacking development in the state.
Akpata said, “I will ensure that primary health care is effective to bring health care to all the wards in the state. People need to be healthy to be able to carry out their daily activities.
“Also, we will deliver on our promises as the people are the major focus of a democratic government. We will also develop the inner cities and other places that lack development.”
