Voters casting their votes during an election

A socio-economic group of professionals from Edo State, Unuedo Renaissance, has asked all parties involved in the upcoming governorship poll to ensure a free and fair process.

The group’s President, Nuhu Yakubu, made this statement available to our correspondent on Saturday, following a town hall interaction with the frontline governorship candidates in the state election held on Friday in Lagos.

Yakubu noted that the town hall was organised to address critical issues and challenges affecting the state, stressing that the 2024 governorship poll is pivotal in the development of the state.

“We have to identify our strengths and weaknesses and espouse ideas with the overall aim of arriving at an elite consensus on what may be the best sustainable workable solutions roadmap, which will be well captured and presented as resolutions after today’s event by our able rapporteurs.

“Together, we can chart a course towards a brighter future for Edo and its people.

“I encourage our gubernatorial candidates to articulate their visions for the state, propose concrete strategies for driving growth and prosperity, and demonstrate their commitment to upholding the values of integrity, transparency, and good governance.

“Let us focus on issues that matter most to the people of Edo, and let us commit to conducting our electoral processes with fairness, respect, and adherence to democratic principles,” he noted.

Saturday PUNCH reported that the All Progressives Congress candidate in the state governorship election, Mr Monday Okpebholo, was absent as leading candidates in the poll presented their manifestoes to political stakeholders, professionals and leaders of Old Boys’ Associations of some schools in the state.

The candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Olumide Akpata, and the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Mr Asue Ighodalo, attended the event.
